In our class we will explore texts from Greek drama and philosophy, as well as biblical passages and world literature, to examine the importance of the individual's struggle in the search for the Good Life. Here in this blog, we will question the concepts of “courage,” “free speech” and “civil disobedience” as well as attempting to discover the characteristics of the hero/martyr/saint.

Trial by Fire
After reading the rest of the dialogue, I want you to formulate in ONE SENTENCE your own definition of courage.
Courage is the action of doing that which puts one's personal welfare or dignity at risk for the sake of standing up for one's values/principles in a specific context.
Courage is the ability to put one's full effort towards an action that is known to be morally and logically justified, and in spite of an emotional response compelling one against doing so.
I believe courage to be the ability to confront extreme adversity and hardship at one's own will, regardless of whether one is afraid of doing so or not.
Courage is having the balls (metaphorically) to do the impossible, see the invisible, touch the untouchable, and break the unbreakable because when you break the rules, you're going to see the truth.
